The key elements found are carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Carbohydrates and lipids both contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Nucleic acids contain carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and phosphorus. Proteins contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur.
